She interned with Kenyon Review and Highlights for Children magazine while she studied. She had a terrific study-abroad experience at England’s University of Exeter. Rachel Orr did a short stint at Barnes & Noble in the children’s department before she was a children’s book editor with Harper Collins for eight years. After that, she joined Prospect Agency in 2007. She enjoys the challenge of tackling a wide variety of projects and is particularly looking for middle-grade and YA novels right now, as well as the next big picture-book illustrator. She values her close relationships with authors and believes that nothing feels as good as a fresh, clean line edit.

Rachel Orr Literary Agent’s favorite part of the job is the chance to collaborate with talented illustrators and authors, and to work with them for the duration of their career. She loves authors who have more than one idea and are willing to revise.

Rachel Orr Literary Agent loves meeting potential clients through classes and at conferences. She enjoys the opportunity to share and teach information about the industry. She speaks at SCBWI conferences across the county, and serves on the faculty of the OCCBWW in Oceanside, Oregon. She has taught novel-writing classes through the California State University’s Summer Arts program and Mediabistro.com. She has served as a Mentor Committee Co-Chair for the Rutgers One-on-One.
