Literary Agents Looking for Authors – Warning!
My name is Mark Malatesta, former NY Times bestselling literary agent (and AAR member). About a year ago I retired from agenting to spend more time writing my own books, and to start an author consulting company called Literary Agent Undercover.
During my first year of business,
my consulting clients did their fair share of complaining…
It wasn’t because I wasn’t doing a great job helping them write and/or improve their query letters, book synopses, and book proposals (click here to see coaching testimonials). It was because I didn’t have an easy way for them to find literary agents looking for authors.
To make matters worse, I soon discovered that no one else had compiled a decent directory of book agents looking for authors, either.
All of them are flawed.

Print Directories – Literary Agents Looking for Authors
Print directories are 6 months old the moment they hit the shelves of your local bookstore or online bookseller. That’s because there is significant lag time between the time the information is collected and the time that you actually get the book.
That makes sense because the publishers need time to: get all of the agents to submit their information, layout the book, edit the book, print the book, and distribute the book.
But that means you’re getting lots of useless information.

Online Directories – Literary Agents Looking for Authors
The online directories are no better.
Every online directory of book agents looking for authors is incomplete and/or riddled with mistakes. I personally researched every one of them.
If you know how difficult it can be to find a book agent, you know how important it is to have accurate (and complete) information… when you’re compiling your agent list.
You simply can’t afford to have outdated listings, missing agents, incomplete information, and incorrect information.
Otherwise you might not get a literary agent.
