Book Agent Claire Draper studied Queer Diversity in Children’s Literature at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study for their BA. While going to school, they interned at Rare Bird Lit, InkWell Management, and the Children’s Book Council. In 2016, they spent a fantastic (if short-lived) two weeks working as a bookseller for the Strand. In early 2019, they moved to The Bent Agency to start building their list with a collection of very queer books for kids of all ages. They then decided to embark on taking queer books for adults.

Claire Draper Literary Agent is particularly interested in books with neurodiverse and queer protagonists that are not necessarily issue-driven books. Regardless of age, genre, or subject, they like emotional, lighthearted, hopeful, adventurous reads. They are largely genre-agnostic, but they prefer books with a high stakes, fast pace, and strong emotional development for the main character(s). They don’t want to see books from authors writing identity-based books not of their own identity. They prefer to work with queer creators and BIPOC creators, and strongly encourage those creators to send her their work
