She always wanted to work in book publishing, but took a slightly different route to get there. After stints at The Associated Press’s International TV news and Corporate Communications departments and graduation from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, she became a part-time assistant in a literary agency and has been happily involved in the industry on the foreign rights and agency side. She is a member of the AALA and part of its International Committee. Most recently she was the director of subsidiary and foreign rights and an agent at Jill Grinberg Literary Management.

Cheryl Pientka Literary Agent is especially interested in page-turning debuts from international writers, and she is always on the hunt for a good character-driven psychological projects. She would love to see narrative that challenges the generational status quo. As an adoptee born during the Baby Scoop era, she is especially seeking something in the vein of AMERICAN BABY that breaks societal taboos and creates empathy for everyone touched by adoption. She is also seeking true stories that promote kindness to animals and a better awareness of our place in the world with them.
